Suppose that you are an owner of a company, or perhaps a department manager responsible for bringing on new staff. Ask yourself this question: How many times have you been in a situation where you ended up with a final two candidates to interview for a position and you chose the wrong one? When you think back on it, you feel that you did everything that you possibly could, including checking references, perhaps a background check, had a really great hiring interview with the person, and you absolutely felt that this was the right one for the job! At the time that you made your decision, you felt that this person was not only perfect for the job your company, but they were a real Saint! So you offered them the job.
The bottom line is that after a short period of time, you realize that you made a terrible mistake. They were not right for your company at all. You may wonder what else you could have done. It turns out that there is one more step that you could have taken. There is a way to learn more about people that apply for a job with your company that is reliable, trustworthy, and validated. After you terminated that worker, other employees may have come to you with comments like, “You know boss, he/she was a really nice person, but they just didn’t fit our company.” Job fit is so important to success on the job, but there are very few methods to determine how well a person is going to fit not only the job, but also your company culture. There is an answer to this problem in the form of an online assessment called the Profile XT.
The Profile XT is divided into three sections, each asking a different question about your candidate. The first section is called Thinking Style and it tells us how our candidate learns new things. It answers the question – Can they do the job? Do they have the mental ware-with-all to handle the challenges of the task?
The next section is the Behavior Traits section and it answers the question – how will he/she do the job? Are they high energy or low, highly assertive or not so assertive, and will they follow the rules? In fifteen years of selling the Profile XT assessment, behavior traits seems to be the one section on the assessment that presents the most problems with new hires in companies and leads to the comments about not fitting in.
The last section is the Occupational Interest section and it answers the question – will they do the job? Are there enough interests with this particular job that match the job interests of your candidate that he/she is going to want to come to work every day?
One of the keys to this assessment lies in the benchmark for the position. If there are other employees currently performing at a top rate within your company, we would want to test at least three of these people to see what characteristics these three people share with each other. Once we know the success characteristics of our best people, we can now search for these same characteristics using the Profile XT to test our future job applicants. If you do not have three people to test, or if this is a new position within your company or department, each client assessment site comes with a built-in library of over 1,200 different jobs that we can use for our benchmark until the department grows significantly enough for us to be able to test three top producing workers. Our job fit measurement with the Profile XT comes in the form of a percentage match for our candidate that tells us how well the person will do in the position. We match applicants from a low of 25 % match, to a high of 95 % match.
It takes 45 minutes to complete a Profile and the results are available immediately.
